Art in churches
Who is the creator of Art in Churches?
Meet Charlotte Tønder, the driving force behind Art in Churches!
At the time of writing, this is the second time the Art in Churches event has taken place. The woman behind it all, Charlotte Tønder, has once again taken on a huge coordination task for an event that has required many months of preparation. Great care has been taken to carefully select talented and exciting artists so that everyone who comes to the exhibition can have a special experience. For this work this year (2021), she allied herself with gallerist Helle Borre, who curated the exhibition.
A municipality with a strong culture.
Charlotte Tønder says: “Gentofte is a municipality with a strong culture and many in the city love art. It’s the perfect starting point. I want to give visitors a unique experience and we make a great effort to match the church space with the artists. This year, the Church of St. Luke’s Foundation was included – it’s a church where sisters still live and the place has a great history. The history of the churches is also part of the experience.”
Art transforms the church space
Charlotte continues: “For me, it’s about the meeting between the art, the church space and the audience. Seeing the art change the church space, but also about finding peace for the new thoughts and reflections that arise. “When you’re in a church space, I find that all the things you carry around are lifted off my shoulders. I’m more bare when I walk into a church room. I’m in a different mood and I’m receptive to impressions in a completely different way. To encounter art there is therefore something very special.”
